Pet Health & Wellness Care for Anoka MN Dogs & Cats

Wellness pet care stems from an attitude of prevention and an active approach to ongoing health, rather than waiting until a pet is ill, injured, or in pain. Pets can be quite good at masking pain or discomfort due to developing medical issues, and they rely on you to care for them. Remember: Nobody knows your pet better than you. Changes that you notice in your pet’s behavior can be clues to your pet’s current health—but even you as the pet owner might not recognize the signs of illness. That’s why the staff at Rum River Veterinary Clinic is here to help you keep your pet healthy.

Pet Health From Rum River Veterinary Clinic

We recommend annual wellness exams for healthy adult dogs and cats. For senior pets and those with chronic or severe medical conditions, scheduling exams twice a year is recommended. Pets age quickly and senior pets are likely to see health changes that occur rapidly.

Missing even one exam may result in disease progression that could have been managed—or even halted—at a much earlier date. Visit our senior pet page for more about the care of our aging animal companions.

Our veterinary wellness exams focus on preventive care, so a thorough exam, from head to tail, is necessary. Skin and coat, physical condition, and general demeanor are examined, followed by ears, eyes, mouth, heart, lungs, and internal and reproductive organs. Good health care starts with an accurate history; we will ask you about your pet’s behavior, activities, and signs of illness or pain. Spay and neuter surgery will be discussed at any visit with an intact pet. Visit our surgery page for more information about the benefits of this procedure.

Vaccinations are the most obvious step toward disease prevention, but every pet is different. We will discuss the needs and lifestyle of your dog or cat and make recommendations for a custom vaccination plan. Visit our vaccination page for an in-depth discussion on disease prevention and vaccines. Parasite prevention and treatment is another significant part of the wellness approach, including blood and microscopic stool sample testing for internal parasites.

Veterinary wellness is not just for pets—owners and their families are sometimes at risk of diseases from their pets. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created a website that provides information about the health-related risks of owning and caring for animals. Visit the CDC website for interesting articles from experts and helpful advice for pet owners.

At Rum River Veterinary Clinic, our wellness focus is on treating the patient, not just a symptom. We schedule a full 30 minutes for every appointment, to ensure a relaxed, comprehensive exam and plenty of time to discuss concerns and answer questions with your pet’s veterinarian and our certified veterinary technicians. This is why we can honestly say:

At Rum River Veterinary Clinic, we take the time to care!
